AT&T to fire CNN President if merger goes through

7yzfr8ur_400x400

Jeff Zucker

“AT&T will look to “neutralize” CNN President Jeff Zucker after it buys Time Warner, The Post has learned.NN faced $100M lawsuit over botched Russia story

The buzz from the telecommunications giant comes as CNN is being slammed for highly publicized missteps — including botched reports tied to the federal probe of possible collusion between President Trump’s campaign and Russia, according to three sources familiar with the thinking of AT&T brass.

The missteps, which also include a profane anti-Trump tweet by Reza Aslan, a CNN host, have made CNN too polarizing an asset for execs at the blue chip company, a source said.

Aslan saw his CNN show, “Believer,” get canceled in the wake of the tweet.

The $85 billion acquisition of CNN parent Time Warner by AT&T could win antitrust approval by the Justice Department in the next 60 days, sources said.

“There was early talk about the way Zucker managed that wasn’t a good fit for the new organization,” one source said. “They were eyeing ways to neutralize him.”

That desire leaves Zucker facing an uncertain future that includes the possibility of getting unceremoniously dumped, one source said.”

Gunman opens fire on LAPD cops

Buckle up kids, I think the ride is going to get a little rough

“A man armed with a rifle fired several rounds toward Los Angeles police officers Thursday night near a park in South Los Angeles, and police returned fire at the gunman.

It’s unclear if the shooter was struck by police gunshots. He fled the area, prompting a massive search that was expected to continue late into the night.

Officers in the area reported they were fired upon about 7 p.m. at San Pedro and 49th streets, on the western edge of the South Park Recreation Center, said Officer Tony Im, an LAPD spokesman.

Authorities did not know how many officers returned fire.

Police set up a perimeter in the neighborhood to search for the gunman, who was described as an adult Latino male wearing a black shirt and blue jeans.

No injuries were reported, Im said.”

Professor calls for shooting of GOP

Buchanan: Are we nearing a civil war?

“President Trump may be chief of state, head of government and commander in chief, but his administration is shot through with disloyalists plotting to bring him down.

We are approaching something of a civil war where the capital city seeks the overthrow of the sovereign and its own restoration.

Thus far, it is a nonviolent struggle, though street clashes between pro- and anti-Trump forces are increasingly marked by fistfights and brawls. Police are having difficulty keeping people apart. A few have been arrested carrying concealed weapons.

That the objective of this city is to bring Trump down via a deep state-media coup is no secret. Few deny it.

Last week, fired Director of the FBI James Comey, a successor to J. Edgar Hoover, admitted under oath that he used a cutout to leak to The New York Times an Oval Office conversation with the president.

Goal: have the Times story trigger the appointment of a special prosecutor to bring down the president.

Comey wanted a special prosecutor to target Trump, despite his knowledge, from his own FBI investigation, that Trump was innocent of the pervasive charge that he colluded with the Kremlin in the hacking of the DNC.

Comey’s deceit was designed to enlist the police powers of the state to bring down his president. And it worked. For the special counsel named, with broad powers to pursue Trump, is Comey’s friend and predecessor at the FBI, Robert Mueller.

As Newt Gingrich said Sunday: “Look at who Mueller’s starting to hire. … (T)hese are people that … look to me like they’re … setting up to go after Trump … including people, by the way, who have been reprimanded for hiding from the defense information into major cases. …

“This is going to be a witch hunt.”

Feared removal of Texas hero’s statue prompts armed protest

“HOUSTON (AP) — Hundreds of individuals, some armed, gathered at a Houston park to protest what they believe are efforts to remove a statue of Texas hero Sam Houston because he owned slaves.

There hasn’t been any organized effort to remove Houston’s statue, which has stood near a city park since 1925.

Protesters, some who carried Confederate flags, said Saturday they’re concerned local activists have been calling for the statue’s removal.

But it’s not clear any such removal efforts have been formally proposed in the wake of other cities around the country taking down Confederate monuments.

While Houston — who was the Republic of Texas’ first president — owned slaves, he also refused to take an oath of allegiance to the Confederacy.”

13 Alabama counties saw 85 percent drop in food stamp participation after work requirements restarted

Thirteen previously exempted Alabama counties saw an 85 percent drop in food stamp participation after work requirements were put in place on Jan. 1, according to the Alabama Department of Human Resources.

The counties – Greene, Hale, Perry, Dallas, Lowndes, Wilcox, Monroe, Conecuh, Clarke, Washington, Choctaw, Sumter and Barbour – had been exempt from a change that limited able-bodied adults without dependents to three months of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits within a three-year time frame unless they were working or participating in an approved training program.

During the economic downturn of 2011-2013, several states – including Alabama – waived the SNAP work requirements in response to high unemployment. It was reinstituted for 54 counties on Jan. 1, 2016 and for the remaining 13 on Jan. 1, 2017. As of April 2017, the highest jobless rate among the 13 previously excluded counties was in Wilcox County, which reported a state-high unemployment rate of 11.7 percent, down more than 11 percentage points from the county’s jobless rate for the same month of 2011.

Ending the exemption has dramatically cut the number of SNAP recipients in the counties.

As of Jan. 1, 2017, there were 13,663 able-bodied adults without dependents receiving food stamps statewide. That number dropped to 7,483 by May 1, 2017. Among the 13 counties, there were 5,538 adults ages 18-50 without dependents receiving food stamps as of Jan. 1, 2017. That number dropped to 831 – a decline of about 85 percent – by May 1, 2017.

Breaking news! Another Republican grows balls

“AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The Latest on a protest at the Texas state Capitol over a new law that compels local police to enforce federal immigration law (all times local):

2:35 p.m.

A Republican Texas state lawmaker accused of threatening gun violence during an immigration protest on the House floor says his life was threatened, not the other way around.

Rep. Matt Rinaldi of Irving said in a statement on Facebook that he “called ICE on several illegal immigrants” Monday based on signs protesters were waving reading, “I am illegal and here to stay.”

Rinaldi says his Democratic colleagues were encouraging protesters “to disobey law enforcement” and that when he mentioned calling federal authorities he was “physically assaulted” by one Democrat.

Rinaldi says another Democrat claimed he would “get” him on his way to his car.

Rinaldi says he responded saying he “would shoot him” in self-defense. He added that he is currently under state trooper protection.

___

1:30 p.m.

A group of Democratic lawmakers is accusing a Republican colleague of threatening to “put a bullet in the head” of someone on the Texas House floor, as a raucous immigration protest unfolded in a public gallery.

At a news conference Monday, the Democrats said Republican state Rep. Matt Rinaldi made the threat toward Rep. Poncho Nevarez, a Democrat from the border town of Eagle Pass.

Rinaldi left the House floor and wasn’t available for comment.

But several Democratic lawmakers said he’d bragged about “calling ICE” on protesters who interrupted a House floor session to protest Texas’ new anti-sanctuary cities law.

That led to a near-scuffle with Democratic Rep. Cesar Blanco. But the Democratic lawmakers said the comments about gun play came during a second altercation moments later.”

Montana Pol knocks the Hell out of reporter, still wins election

Hilarious. “Your voices were definitely heard in this election” Weren’t they? Guess you know now how the right feels about liberal reporters

Republican businessman Greg Gianforte won Montana’s sole House district in a special election Thursday, keeping a seat in Republican hands despite facing assault charges for allegedly attacking a reporter who’d asked him about the GOP’s health-care bill.

In his victory speech, Gianforte admitted to the attack and apologized for it.

“I shouldn’t have treated that reporter that way,” he told supporters at his rally here.”

“Democrats, who called on Gianforte to quit the race after the assault charge, believed that late votes broke Quist’s way, and that the first-time candidate put the race in play by attacking the AHCA. Forcing Republicans to spend seven figures defending a typically safe seat, they argued, was worth it.

“We said at the outset that this would be a very difficult election on very red turf,” said David Nir, the political director of Daily Kos, which endorsed Quist and crowdfunded donations for him. “The playing field next month in Georgia and next year in the midterms is much more favorable. Republicans might be breathing a sigh of relief that their morally reprehensible candidate won on Thursday night, but they should still be very worried about 2018.”

Quist conceded defeat shortly after 11 pm local time. “Your voices were definitely heard in this election,” he told supporters at his election party in Missoula. “I know we came up short but the energy and the grassroots movement in this state goes on.”

Brazil deploys troops to quell protest

‘RIO DE JANEIRO — Besieged by protests, Brazil’s president on Wednesday deployed federal troops to restore order in the capital, Brasília, after demonstrators calling for his ouster clashed with security forces.

Defense Minister Raul Jungmann went on national television on Wednesday afternoon to insist that President Michel Temer was only trying to restore calm in the capital by calling in the troops to patrol some areas. One of the city’s iconic modernist buildings, the Agriculture Ministry, was set on fire, and other government buildings were vandalized during the mayhem. Regional officials in Brasília put the number of protesters on Wednesday around 35,000.

“A protest that was supposed to be peaceful deteriorated into violence, vandalism and disrespect,” Mr. Jungmann said.

While supporters of the move say the capital must remain calm and functioning, the use of the armed forces in Brazil touches a nerve among critics of the military dictatorship that ruled the country from 1964 to 1985, a period known for human rights abuses and the restriction of civil liberties.

Jairo Nicolau, a professor of political science at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, said the move to call in the armed forces was a “mistake.”

Haha! He’s got my vote

Candidate charged with election-eve assault

“Late on the night before a hotly contested special election, U.S. House candidate Greg Gianforte was charged with misdemeanor assault after a national political reporter alleged the Republican “body slammed” him, sending a last-minute shock wave through the race.

Shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday, the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office was summoned to Gianforte’s campaign headquarters at 212 Discovery Lane in Bozeman.

The reporter, Ben Jacobs of The Guardian, claimed on Twitter that Gianforte assaulted him.

After multiple interviews with witnesses Wednesday night, the sheriff’s office cited Gianforte for the misdemeanor. Gallatin County Sheriff Brian Gootkin said the incident did not meet the criteria for a felony charge.

Gianforte must appear in Gallatin County Justice Court between now and June 7.

In an emailed statement, Shane Scanlon, spokesman for the Gianforte campaign, gave the following account of the confrontation:

“Tonight, as Greg was giving a separate interview in a private office, The Guardian’s Ben Jacobs entered the office without permission, aggressively shoved a recorder in Greg’s face, and began asking badgering questions. Jacobs was asked to leave. After asking Jacobs to lower the recorder, Jacobs declined,” Scanlon said.

“Greg then attempted to grab the phone that was pushed in his face. Jacobs grabbed Greg’s wrist, and spun away from Greg, pushing them both to the ground. It’s unfortunate that this aggressive behavior from a liberal journalist created this scene at our campaign volunteer BBQ.”

BREAKING NEWS: Vigil for Manchester victims in Birmingham is interrupted after a man is caught nearby ‘with a large knife and a baseball bat’

A vigil in Birmingham for the Manchester Arena victims has been interrupted after a man apparently armed with a large knife and a baseball bat was detained nearby.

Birmingham held a candle-lit vigil to show solidarity with the victims of last night’s terror attack in Manchester.

The armed man shouted out as he was handcuffed by officers, just a short distance from where 1,000 people had gathered in the city’s main Victoria Square. The man, who was black and had a short-trimmed beard, was taken away in a riot can around 7pm.

Speakers which had been paying tribute to the Manchester victims were interrupted by the man’s protests, from down a side street.

Police, including armed response officers, then cleared the square a short time later.

The evacuation of the square was carried out as a precaution by police, West Midlands chief constable David Thompson confirmed

Death throes: Aetna Is Latest Health Insurer to Quit Obamacare Markets

“Aetna Inc. will leave the few remaining states where it had been selling Obamacare plans next year, making it the latest health insurer to pull out of the health law as Republicans attack the program as failing and work to dismantle it.”

“At this time have completely exited the exchanges,” Aetna said in a statement Wednesday. The insurer will also stop selling non-Obamacare individual plans in Delaware and Nebraska.

Aetna had indicated it might pull out earlier this month, when Chief Financial Officer Shawn Guertin said the company would take steps to limit its financial losses in the program. Aetna has said it expects to lose more than $200 million on individual health plans this year in the four states where it’s still selling Affordable Care Act plans.

Obamacare’s markets are becoming increasingly vulnerable as major health insurers exit, citing financial losses. Some insurers have stayed in, but raised the premiums they charge customers by double-digit percentages.

Obama Uses Private Jet, 14 Car Convoy to Get to European Climate Change Speech

“Former President Barack Obama traveled to Italy this week to make a speech on climate change at the “Seed & Chips: The Global Food Innovation Summit” in the city of Milan.

It seems like Obama has taken a page out of Leonardo DiCaprio’s book of “do as I say, not as I do” and took a private jet to Milan. Not only that, he had a 14 car convoy to get into the city, which also included protection from above with a helicopter.

It doesn’t end there. According to The Daily Mail, 300 police officers were used to protect the former president.”

Obama administration grossly under reported number of Americans who were unmasked by NSA in 2016

“The Obama administration made history during the 2016 election by releasing statistics for the first time showing how many times government officials sought to unmask the names of Americans captured in accidental National Security Agency intercepts. There was just one problem: the number of affected Americans was grossly underreported.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence, now under new management with President Donald Trump, confirms that the 654 unmaskings reported last year for fiscal 2015 was under reported by a factor of more than three times. The correct number was actually 2,232.”

Report: Federal Grand Jury Issued Subpoenas In Hillary Clinton Email Case

“A federal grand jury provided FBI agents with subpoenas to inspect Hillary Clinton’s BlackBerry devices last year, court papers provided to Judicial Watch show.

According to the watchdog group, FBI counterintelligence official E.W. Priestap filed a sworn declaration stating that the FBI “obtained Grand Jury subpoenas related to the Blackberry e-mail accounts.”

The subpoenas “produced no responsive materials, as the requested data was outside the retention time utilized by those providers,” stated Priestap, who supervised the FBI’s investigation into Clinton’s potential mishandling of classified information as secretary of state.

Clinton used a private email server hooked up to her personal BlackBerries to send and receive business emails. Thousands of the messages contained classified information.

Priestap’s declaration is the first official acknowledgement that a grand jury was used in the Clinton email investigation. But the declaration raises new questions because of various reports stating that a grand jury never was convened as part of the probe.

It is unclear what other actions the grand jury took in the email investigation.

FBI Director James Comey ultimately announced on July 5 that he would not be recommending charges against Clinton for mishandling classified information.

Tom Fitton, Judicial Watch’s president, questions why the information about the grand jury is just now being disclosed to his group, which has filed numerous lawsuits against the State Department and other agencies for records about Clinton’s emails.

“The FBI convened a grand jury to investigate Hillary Clinton in 2016. Why is this information being released only now?” Fitton asked in a statement. “And it is disturbing that the State Department, Justice Department and FBI are still trying to protect Hillary Clinton. President Trump needs to clean house at all these agencies.”

Want some Trump?

Below is a key element of Trump’s new tax plan. It is in the article under “Losers”

Upper-middle-income people in blue states. The plan would eliminate the federal tax deduction for state and local income tax. If you are in a place where such taxes are high, like New York or California, you would lose a valuable deduction.

How’s that work for you? That is a super hefty deduction in the states that didn’t vote for Trump. I am sure it’s just a coincidence though…..

The whole plan here:https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/26/upshot/winners-and-losers-in-the-trump-tax-plan.html
