Right now the artillery is softening us up for superstorm Wanker Milton. After Helene, all the rivers and lakes are full. We have gotten an additional 2″ of rain since yesterday and everything is inundated. I was supposed to start replacing pumps in the flood zone this week, but it looks that might be off. The storm is now a Cat 3 and is taking aim for our general area. Won’t know which way it is going until it is almost too late, but it looks like it might be a beast . I still have the hurricane shutters up except for 2 large windows from Helene so that is one thing less.
Milton grew quickly. Storm to Cat 4 in three days. looks like it’s going right up the middle of Tampa Bay, like Ian didn’t do enough damage there.
This hurricane season went from almost dead quiet to OMFG quickly.
Stay safe. Gotta check on the relatives. They’re probably under another evac order.

I live in Western North Carolina and we got massive damage here from hurricane Helene. Thousands of trees and utility poles down here. People stranded. Over 200 dead so far and hundreds missing. I was out of power and internet for 10 days. Towns like Chimney Rock about 20 miles from me swept away.
I hope Florida folks fare OK when the new storm rears its ugly head

Good luck folks – I hope you come out of the other end of this storm with minimal damage. Don’t forget to ID your pets in case they get lost but survive in the storm.

Thanks. I boxed that stuff up. Will have it out if we aren’t flattened like pancakes

Don’t worry about the box, just take care of what’s important. They’re saying now it’ll be a Cat-3 by the time it hits you so you should be fine.

How often does a storm in the west GOM develop into a hurricane then head almost due east?
I don’t buy into geo engineering large storms, but the forecasted track of Milton is crazy. Then the Helene retrograded west after landfall then stalled.
Those two seem quite unusual.

I have never seen it in 30 plus years here

Been working th the SC State Guard up by Spartanburg. A lot of trees down, blocking roads and downed power lines. Was supporting a shelter in Campobello. Town finally got power back to all areas on Thursday. Moving on to other areas. Lots of chainsaw work, and keep a wary eye on Milton. If it turns NE from FL, it will give Coastal Carolina what Helene missed. Hunker down and brace for collision!

For sure. It is supposed to cross right over Fl and still be a Cat 1
