The hazards of flying in hail
This entry was posted in Uncategorized. Bookmark the permalink.
Wait a minute. The onboard radar did not detect the hail producing storm. Was the radar OTS (out of service)? Did the crew have the radar turned off? Was radar gain or tilt askew (by crew)? Ground-based radar not detecting? Was there not reports by preceding aircraft? ATC issued no caution?
Aside from this article being yet another bad example of urinalism, how is it that none of the many redundant features of modern aviation all failed all at once?
I’ve seen storms rapidly move through all phases of development Magnificent and powerful, soaring to great heights, they come and they go within minutes. Yet even that rapidity is insufficient to conquer every means of prediction.
My bet is on crew complacency. ATC a contributory cause
