Many years ago I went to fill up a canteen from a water buffalo, it was marked non potable water. I said something to the enlisted guarding it who said, “oh yeah it’s potable”. I left and came back later and somebody had taped up a piece of paper over the “non” part of non-potable. I went ahead and filled my canteen and less than a week later came down with giardiasis.
