He was the absolute worst president ever. Not because he freed the slaves, but because doing it the way he did cost the lives of almost a million people. I don’t think any other comes close. You could argue the point that FDR got us involved in war that resulted in more American deaths, for no good reason, but I still vote for Abe.

Notice that Lincoln did not free the slaves at the beginning of the war? It was an act of attrition that drafted all those new bodies into the union army

Well when you had 23 million people in the North, and 9 million in the South and a third of that number were enslaved, those electoral votes in the South weren’t needed. It was nothing more than posturing by those ten states. Huge difference from today and the disenfranchised voters of today.

Funny, a lot of those southern slaves were enslaved at the pleasure of Northern corporations. Jp morgan chase,Aetna, Lehman Bros……. What did you say had changed?
