    But had Lincoln lived, he had planned to ship most of the slaves back to Africa. Then there would have been no LBJ “great soceity” and “war on poverty” that so greatly expanded the government. So, 6 of one, half dozen of the other?

    that is exactly correct. all the states had the right to succeed if they chose to. when the south chose to, no matter the reason, lincoln refused to allow them their freedom and attacked them. the south fought because the north came down south and attacked.
