Donald Trump is pushing back against a growing chorus of suggestions that he and his aides had improper contact with the Russian government during his presidential campaign, saying malicious leakers inside the U.S. Intelligence Community touched off the scandal by talking to reporters.

‘The real scandal here is that classified information is illegally given out by “intelligence” like candy. Very un-American!’ he tweeted.

The president faces accusations that he was needlessly sympathetic to Moscow, along with renewed suspicions that his foreign policy was informed by threats of blackmail from Vladimir Putin’s government.

He claimed Wednesday morning on Twitter that the firestorm surrounding former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn’s ouster is a media conspiracy fueled by vengeful partisans inside U.S. intelligence agencies, and that the Obama administration – not his own – was ‘soft on Russia.’

‘Information is being illegally given to the failing @nytimes & @washingtonpost by the intelligence community (NSA and FBI?),’ Trump tweeted. ‘Just like Russia.’

He claimed that ‘[t]his Russian connection non-sense [sic] is merely an attempt to cover-up the many mistakes made in Hillary Clinton’s losing campaign.’

And in a jab at his predecessor, Trump wrote: ‘Crimea was TAKEN by Russia during the Obama Administration. Was Obama too soft on Russia?’

Trump began his early morning tweet-storm with a swipe at cable TV hosts from the two networks he loves to hate.

  1. Only what, 26-27 days into the Presidency?
Crazier by the day, if one is paying attention.
I had though/hoped things would settle down after the election.
Increasingly, it seems not to be so.
